The Ecosystem
Gensac is not just a vineyard, it’s a complete ecosystem: vines, meadows, forests, lakes and of course our horses. The natural diversity of this place shapes the way we think and work. We’ve chosen to stay close to nature, which is why the estate converted to organic farming and obtained its certification.
The terroir
Our terroir lies on clay-limestone soil rich in active limestone. This mineral base gives the wines their structure, tension and ageing potential. The soil forces the vine to draw essential minerals, naturally concentrating the wines and reinforcing their character and typicity. Our temperate oceanic climate allows for steady, gradual ripening, which favours fine and deep flavours.
Vineyard, Plots & Precision
Today, our vineyard consists of 31 distinct plots planted over the past 70 years with the latest addition coming in 2026.
Every plot is cultivated according to its specific needs: grape variety, age, exposure. The identity of each location matters to us, as each wine is an expression of it.
We grow 11 grape varieties on the estate, all native to the South-West of France. Some more famous like Malbec and Tannat and others still largely undiscovered by the global wine world such as Petit Courbu or Fer Servadou.
This allows us to produce unique wines that showcase the typical character of the Gers. Also, we intentionally limit our yields, in some cases as low to 25Hl/hectare to favour concentration and precision.
The Winery
The winery is the final touch of our work. It is where each wine finds its balance each year; blends are adjusted, barrels renewed. A passionate team works here every day to ensure our wines reflect our DNA.
To support this mission, we’ve equipped our cellar with cutting-edge tools:
For vinification: 36 temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to vinify each plot with precision, but also to experiment, innovate and better understand the typicity of each plot.
For ageing: We use two methods – first, concrete tanks that allow regulated micro-oxygenation without adding woody notes. Second, mostly fine new French oak barrels that bring structure and final power to our wines.
The Armagnac
At Château de Gensac, Armagnac is not a relic – it’s a living tradition, a noble product that we craft with the same high standards as our wines. Made from traditional grape varieties grown on the estate – primarily Ugni Blanc and Colombard – our Armagnacs are distilled using the continuous method with a single heating, in accordance with historical regulations.
Each eau-de-vie is then aged in oak barrels in our cellars, where time slowly shapes its structure, complexity and elegance.
Our Armagnacs reflect our style: finesse, precision and depth.
Our Vision
At Gensac, we believe that each wine must carry its terroir within it. Our commitment is simple: to produce unique, profound, elegant and sustainable wines that reveal the richness of our estate. We want to show that another South-West exists – more vibrant, more precise, more Gensac.
